We've had this motorcycle since 1969. My father actually owned it in 1958 or 1959, sold it to a local older gentleman and we got it back from him in 1969. This four cylinder is a proven motorcycle. I personally put 11,000 miles on this motorcycle from 1977 to 1987, this was riding to and from the Indian Four Cylinder Meet in Tiffin, Ohio, and a few other meets. Then we pulled the motor out of it because it was getting very tired, and we rebuilt the motor. We actually freshened the motor up in the early 70's with the parts that we had at the time. We had honed the cylinders and put .010 over original Indian four pistons in it, a new clutch and transmission gears. Then I rode it the 11,000 miles. But in 1987 when it was getting very tired we took it apart for a complete rebuild, reground the crank, new old stock main bearings, rebabbitted the rods, new clutch, new old stock mainshaft and bearings, new valves and valve springs. The bores and the original .010 over pistons were still in great shape so just new rings were installed. It runs like a top! It does need broke in, it only has about 100 miles on it since the rebuild. I haven't had enough time to spend riding it, I'm too busy working on customer's bikes!!
Everything works the way Indian intended it to work. There are no breaks, cracks or welds on the cases. They are matching number cases. There are very few older reproduction parts on this machine, mainly the footboard mats and handlegrips. The instruments are original (original ignition switch, ammeter and speedometer). If you're going to ride this bike a lot and long distances, you might want to put new tires and tubes. They look good, they're Pirelli universal MT53's.
This is also a very straight machine. Not bent or twisted. You can ride down the road with your hands off the handlebars! I know, I've done it! I think you're going to have a hard time finding a better one.
You can restore anything, they're only original paint one time............
